Evaluation of the Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Demonstration Initiative (DVHPDI)

The Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Demonstration Initiative (DVHPDI) was developed to implement domestic violence homicide reduction and prevention models (Lethality Assessment Program; LAP). The purpose of the evaluation study is to measure the implementation, impact, and expansion of the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) in Contra Costa County, CA. Drs. Tolou-Shams and Dauria lead local evaluation efforts for the DVHPDI site in Contra Costa County, California. This project involves the review and collection of longitudinal administrative and primary data collected from law enforcement agencies, criminal justice organizations, domestic violence service providers, and victims of domestic violence. The evaluation highlights the multilevel factors shaping implementation and uptake of LAP (e.g., system-level readiness, training, and resources, victim perception of law enforcement). Data collection is on-going and will inform policy-driven expansion efforts of the LAP initiative throughout the remaining law enforcement jurisdictions in the county.
