Project RISE Up
Ukraine has one of the fastest growing HIV epidemics in the world. This pilot project is funding by the Lifespan/Brown Criminal Justice Research Training (CJRT) program (PI: Beckwith; R25 DA037190). The purpose of this exploratory qualitative study is to examine the sexual and substance use risk behaviors of emerging adults (aged 18 to 24 years) on probation in Ukraine, and to identify systems-level practices that may attenuate or exacerbate these risks. In collaboration with partners from HealthRight International’s Ukraine office, data collection activities are complete. Data are currently being analyzed for dissemination. The findings from this study may also lead to the development of individual or systems-level HIV-prevention intervention for substance using youth on probation in Ukraine.
